What is CRS: The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based method used to evaluate and rank your profile in the Express Entry pool. It takes into account factors such as:

• Skills
• Education
• Language proficiency
• Work experience
• Other relevant factors

To receive an invitation to apply, your CRS score must meet or exceed the minimum score required for that specific round of invitations. Please note, the cut-off score can change with each round.

 When to use this tool

Use this tool if:

• you’re eligible for at least 1 Express Entry program and you have not filled out an Express Entry profile but you’d like to see what your CRS score might be if you do, or
• you were invited to apply for permanent residence, and you want to see if a change to your profile will affect your CRS score

Gather Your Documents:

Documents You May Need to Create a Profile

When creating your profile, you may need some or all of the following documents:

• Passport or travel document
  If your passport will expire within 6 months of your application, be sure to renew it. Once you have your new passport, update your details in your application.
  For Venezuelan passport holders: Additional steps may be required when creating your profile or filling out your application.
• Language test results
• Proof of Canadian education or educational credential assessment (ECA) report
  You’ll need an ECA if:
  • You’re applying through the Federal Skilled Worker Program, or
  • You want to claim points for education obtained outside Canada
• Written job offer from a Canadian employer (if applicable)
• Proof of work experience (e.g., reference or experience letter from an employer)
• Certificate of qualification in a trade occupation issued by a Canadian province or territory (if applicable)
• Proof of funds
• Police certificates
• Provincial nomination (if applying through the Provincial Nominee Program)

Create your profile

Steps to Create Your Profile:

1. Prepare your documents.
   Ensure you have all the required documents ready before starting.
2. Sign in to your IRCC secure account.
3. Enter your personal reference code (if you used the Come to Canada tool).
4. Provide your personal details to create your profile.
   You can exit your profile at any time, and your information will be saved in your account.
5. Dependent children:
   You won’t be asked to provide information about your dependent children unless you’re invited to apply.
6. Submit your profile.
   You have 60 days to complete and submit your Express Entry profile. If you don’t submit it within this time frame, you will need to start over.

Based on the details you enter, IRCC will assess your eligibility for various programs and let you know if you might be invited to apply.

Invitations to Apply for Express Entry Programs

If you’re eligible for multiple programs through Express Entry, you’ll be invited to apply for the first program you qualify for, in this order:

1. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
2. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
3. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

You cannot choose which program you’re invited to apply for. The system will determine your program based on the information you provide.

If you decline an invitation, you won’t be re-invited under the next program. You’ll be placed back in the pool, and if you’re invited again, it will follow the same order as before.

How Your Profile is Ranked

Profiles are ranked based on the information provided, such as skills and work experience. To be selected from the pool and invited to apply, you need to have one of the highest-ranking scores when invitations are issued. If invited, you can apply for permanent residency. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the points-based system used to assess, score, and rank profiles in the Express Entry pool.

Keep Your Profile Updated
It’s essential to update your profile if any changes occur in your situation, such as:

• Starting a new job
• Gaining or losing a job offer
• Taking a new language test
• Getting married or divorced
• Having or adopting a child

Providing false information or omitting important details could result in:

• Application refusal
• Being deemed inadmissible
• A five-year ban from applying to come to Canada

Common Reasons Your Profile May Become Ineligible

• Your work experience no longer meets the program requirements (e.g., it must be within the last 3 years).
• Your language test results have expired.
• Your educational credential assessment (ECA) results have expired.
• You no longer meet the minimum required funds.
• You’ve changed your primary occupation.

What to Do While You’re in the Pool

Improve Your CRS Score: You can enhance your score by:

• Obtaining a valid job offer
• Reaching out to provinces or territories for Provincial Nominee Program consideration
• Improving your language scores
• Advancing your education
• Gaining additional skilled work experience

If Your Work Permit Expires While You’re in the Pool

If your work permit is nearing expiration, extend it before it expires.

If it has already expired:

• Apply to restore your work permit.
• You can leave Canada and remain in the pool.
• If you don’t apply to restore your work permit, you must leave Canada once it expires.

It’s important not to work in Canada without valid status, as this could make you ineligible for Express Entry.
