Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has extended the Temporary Public Policy for Visitors to apply for Work Permit from inside Canada until February 28, 2025. Citizens of other Countries, who receive a legitimate job offer while visiting Canada will still be able to apply for and be granted a work permit without needing to leave the country.
Visitors who apply for Work Permits in accordance with this public policy and who had a work permit within the previous year may still ask for temporary work authorization to start working for their new employer in short order.
Visitors required to apply for a work permit from outside Canada before IRCC introduced this policy. If they were already in Canada, they must leave the country to obtain their work permit. IRCC introduced this temporary public policy in August 2020.
An applicant seeking to take advantage of this temporary public policy must meet the following requirements:
- They must have a job offer that is supported by a labour market impact assessment (LMIA) or an LMIA-exempt offer of employment.
- They must have valid visitor status in Canada on the day they apply.
- They must meet every other standard criterion for admissibility.
