Study Authorization for Work Permit Holders

Immigration Canada announced a new temporary public policy for foreign workers on June 27, 2023. This temporary public policy allows eligible foreign workers to study in Canada without a Study Permit. According to this policy the foreign nationals are eligible if their work permit application has been submitted to IRCC on or before June 07, 2023.

Canadian Immigration Minister announced this temporary measure that will be in place for three years to help foreign workers expand their future job prospects and increase their opportunities to transition to permanent residence.

Now work permit holders could study while working till the validity of their Work Permits or until the expiration of the policy, with no restrictions on the length of the program. Before this policy, foreign workers could only study while working in programs of six months or less in duration and had to apply for a separate study permit for the longer programs.

With this new measure, foreign workers can study full-time or part-time with no restrictions on the length of the program until their work permit are valid or the expiration of this policy on June 27, 2026, whichever comes first.

A Foreign Worker seeking to take advantage of this temporary public policy must meet the following requirements:

  • Foreign Worker holds a valid Work Permit.
  • Foreign Worker submitted his work permit application on or before June 07, 2023.
  • Foreign Worker applies to extend his Work Permit on or before June 07, 2023.
