All provinces and territories have special Immigration programs to attract people, business and skills, to their provinces. Some estimates say people are moving to ALBERTA more than any other province and the Statistics Canada data supports this.
The Government of Alberta is hoping to bring more skilled workers to Alberta through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) in next few years. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sets the limits for nominations the AAIP can issue each year. Alberta received 6,500 nomination certificates through IRCC in 2022.
Rajan Sawhney, The Minister of Trade, Immigration and Multiculturalism says in a news release that Alberta will start accepting 9,750 people under the AAIP in 2023. Moreover, 10,140 people in 2024 and 10,849 people in 2025 will be accepted.
According to the Minister, immigrants help to grow communities, address labour shortages and provide economic benefits to the province. With 120,000 new jobs added in Alberta since 2021, and there are still roughly 74,140 job openings, according to a news release from the province. Approximately 33,100 workers are predicted by 2025, based on occupation, sectors and skills level.
Additionally, Alberta is prioritizing applicants who have immediate family members in the province. To get an invitation from AAIP, applicants must meet Express Entry eligibility criteria, have an active Express Entry profile and a minimum CRS Score of 300.
